Drunk man shouted at staff in McDonald’s

Justice

A MAN who got drunk and shouted at staff in McDonald’s appeared before Carlow District Court on public order charges last week. Wayne Stynes, 24 Church Street, Graiguecullen pleaded guilty to being intoxicated in a public place and to using threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour at McDonald’s fast food restaurant, Kennedy Avenue, Carlow on 13 November this year.

Sergeant Hud Kelly told the court that gardaí responded to a call about a man shouting at staff and causing a disturbance in McDonald’s in front of families and children. He added that Mr Stynes had 26 previous offences, including public order matters.

Solicitor Joe Farrell told Judge Geraldine Carthy that Mr Stynes (32) had been involved in a serious accident in which he was badly injured. He said that his client had an acquired brain injury and that on the day of the incident in McDonald’s he had gone for some drinks for the first time after having spent some time in hospital but had very little recollection of what happened. He added that Mr Stynes had gone into the restaurant the following day to apologise and that there was “no excuse” for his behaviour.

Judge Carthy agreed that there was no excuse for Mr Stynes’s actions on the day and that the matter was aggravated by the fact that there were children in the restaurant. She adjourned sentencing until 26 February next for the preparation of a probation report.
