Man with stolen bike and chainsaw remanded on bail

A POLISH native pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a stolen bicycle and one count of possessing drugs for sale or supply before Judge Mary Morrissey in Carlow Circuit Court on 19 February.

Michael Plecha (49) with an address at 25 Shraughaun Close, Tullow was found by gardaí to be in possession of cannabis and amphetamine on 22 November 2024 in Carlow for the purpose of selling or supplying to another, contrary to section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977.

Additionally, on 27 November 2024, Mr Plecha was found in unlawful possession of a stolen bicycle and chainsaw and was reckless as to whether it was stolen. This offence is contrary to section 18 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001.

Another count for possession of drugs was struck out under the plea deal.

The court heard that the defendant is currently engaging with the probation services in respect of district court matters. Judge Morrissey directed the preparation of a probation report before his sentencing hearing and requested a victim impact statement in respect of the stolen property.

She remanded Mr Plecha on continuing bail until the next circuit court sitting on 12 May.
