Carlow man pleaded guilty to sale or supply of cocaine 

He also pleaded guilty to money laundering

A CARLOW man pleaded guilty last week to counts of possessing cocaine for sale or supply and to a further charge of money laundering when he appeared last week before the local circuit court.

Patrick Farrell, 63 John Sweeney Park, Tullow Road, Carlow pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine for the purpose of sale or supply at that address on 9 May 2022. He also pleaded guilty to the same charge at 30 John Sweeney Park, Carlow arising from an incident that occurred three days previously, on 6 May 2022.

Mr Farrell (34) also pleaded guilty to possessing or handling €3,500, knowing it was the proceeds of criminal conduct (money laundering) at 63 John Sweeney Park, Carlow on 9 May 2022.

Counsel for the defendant Luke O’Higgins BL asked Judge Eugene O’Kelly to consider the earliest possible sentence for his client as he was already serving a prison sentence. He also asked that a governor’s report, a counsellor’s report and an education report be requested from Wheatfield Prison ahead of sentencing, which Judge O’Kelly granted.

Judge O’Kelly granted the submission and adjourned the case until the next sitting of Carlow Circuit Court in February 2025.

Mr Farrell’s co-accused, 32-year-old Liam Kelly, Glebeside, Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for selling or supplying cocaine at 63 John Sweeney Park, Carlow after he pleaded guilty at the July sitting of Carlow Circuit Court.
