Council bursary gifts laptops to students

Former cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council Fergal Browne presented students with MacBooks as part of his cathaoirleach bursary
SIX Carlow students preparing to begin postgraduate studies were presented with MacBook Air laptops in Carlow library recently by the outgoing cathaoirleach of Carlow Co Council, Fergal Browne, at an event highlighting the council’s ongoing commitment to educational excellence and opportunity in the county.
The students, chosen for their academic achievements in their chosen fields, will pursue a variety of postgraduate programmes in Ireland and internationally. The successful applicants were Mohammadhassan Badihehaghdam, Aoibhe Bowe, Ivor Bowe, Alexandra Chapman, Alana Holloway, Shane O’Byrne and Rachael O’Brien.
The initiative, led by Carlow Co Council and administered by Carlow County Library Service, supports students by providing essential equipment as they continue their academic journeys.
During the event, cllr Browne acknowledged the hard work and ambition demonstrated by the students. He emphasised the council’s pride in supporting them and highlighted that initiatives like this are part of a broader strategy to strengthen access to education and empower future leaders in Carlow.
The programme reflects the council’s broader strategy of promoting access to higher education and digital equity, ensuring students from Carlow can compete and excel at the highest level in their chosen disciplines of study. The bursary is awarded annually and the local authority encourages all students from Co Carlow who will be undertaking a postgraduate course in 2026 to apply for next year’s competition, which will be advertised in the spring.
