A FUNDRAISING concert in aid of two remarkable men from Graignamanagh is already a sell-out. The concert in aid of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust (KBRT) is being held in memory of Robert Murphy and Danny O’Brien.

Both local men died abroad within months of each other in 2023. Danny died in Norway in August 2023 and Robert died after falling ill in Australia in November 2023.

KBRT was founded out of a family tragedy when, in June 2013, Kevin Bell died suddenly in New York. Following an outpouring of support from Kevin’s friends, family and colleagues, a significant amount of funds were raised to repatriate his remains back to Ireland. As a permanent legacy to Kevin, the Bell family decided to use the funds to establish a charity to help other families who find themselves in a similar situation. Help comes in the form of financial support as well as advice and guidance on getting the remains of loved ones home as soon as possible.

The concert, which is being organised by the Murphy and O’Brien families, will feature music from Martin Ryan and friends, with 13 performers set to take to the stage. It’s taking place on Saturday 25 January in Abbey Hall, Graignamanagh.

There is also a number of door prizes, including two tickets for the upcoming UEFA Nations League play-off between Ireland and Bulgaria in the Aviva Stadium.

Robert Murphy was full of love for his family, which never went unsaid. His quick wit brought laughter wherever he went. His kindness and wisdom supported his loved ones through hard times, and his appreciation for the little things helped everyone else to recognise them, too.

He lived in Sydney since 2017, with his loving partner Martina. A trained carpenter, he worked on the restoration of historic buildings and took great pride in his work.

He delighted in life, whether it was taking pride in his day’s work, enjoying the great outdoors or having fun with his loved ones – he did it all in his own unique way. He leaves behind a legacy of living life to the fullest and finding joy in all things great and small.

Danny O’Brien had a great love of all things outdoors, nature, animals and a spirit of adventure. He was a highly accomplished sportsman in so many disciplines. He travelled all over the world following his dreams and his bucket list, making many friends on his travels, and yet there was no place like home, the Barrow and the dogs.

One of his dreams was to live in Norway. He lived in Voss on and off, which has been described as the adrenaline capital of the world. He met Ingvill in Voss. He worked as an aviation engineer around the world and finally landed his dream job in Bergen and was living his best life with the love of his life.

While the concert is a sell-out, there is a waiting list for tickets. To go on this waiting list or to make a donation, please contact Rebecca on 086 4141252, Breda on 087 2949576 or Esther on 087 9927808.
