A HUGE crowd turned out for a night of rock music to support the vital work of Carlow Town Community First Responders (CFRs). The volunteer group held a fundraising night in Ewing’s bar, Centaur Street to raise funds to help the continuation and development of the emergency lifesaving work it does.

Local bands Bad Fathers and Bopping for Apples came together to entertain and to celebrate the remarkable work being done by the group. Carlow Town CFR is now five years old and is comprised of volunteers from various backgrounds, trained to attend specific emergency calls within a 5km radius of the town, covering Ballickmoyler, Graiguecullen, Crosneen and Bennekerry, to name a few. All members attend intensive training over a period of months before making themselves available to the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Over six thousand euro was raised, which volunteer Caroline Dargan says will go towards buying essential equipment, maintaining services and funding AED training in the community.

"It was a fantastic night and I'd really like to thank Seanie Fennelly in particular for doing a massive amount of work, including getting the musicians together. Everyone came out praising the gig and how good it was, a night of old school rock" Caroline told The Nationalist.

"It was a lovely evening, supported so generously by our sponsors" she added. "A great thing to come from the night is that Best Body Health and Fitness gym have bought an AED and we are sponsoring the cabinet and that will be available to the public to offer more help when needed".

Anyone interested in supporting the work or joining Carlow Town CFS can contact the group through its social media channels.
