Celebrating the county's culinary talent and rich history of food

Restaurant Week takes place in the county from 26 October to 2 November

Carlow Tourism is delighted to announce the inaugural Restaurant Week, celebrating the diverse culinary landscape of County Carlow from October 26th to November 2nd. This event will spotlight the rich agricultural heritage and local culinary talent, featuring a variety of delicious dishes crafted by eleven members of the Carlow Food Network.

Nestled between the picturesque Rivers Barrow and Slaney and the majestic Blackstairs Mountains, Carlow is renowned for its exceptional produce. The county's fertile soil and favourable climate have historically made it a hub for food production, where grand estates flourished with gardens full of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. This legacy continues to shape Carlow's vibrant food scene today.

During Restaurant Week, each participating restaurant will showcase a dedicated Carlow dish made with locally sourced ingredients. Diners can enjoy a range of flavours, from comforting staples like Rachel’s Braised Beef Stew with O’Hara’s Stout and Rooster potatoes in Arboretum Home and Garden Heaven to international delights such as Chicken Tikka Masala with Saag Aloo at New Moon Indian Restaurant. Other highlights include the Herb Crusted Rack of Ballon Lamb at Teach Dolmain or for a sweet finish don’t miss the Carlow Spudlicious Chocolate Cake at Woodfors Dolmen Hotel.

Additionally, the Carlow Farmers Market, held every Saturday during Restaurant Week, will feature a variety of local produce, enhancing the culinary experience.

Michael Walsh, Chairman of Carlow Tourism, emphasised the event's goal: “Carlow Restaurant Week fosters community spirit and invites everyone to savour the unique food experiences our county has to offer. Thanks to generous funding from Carlow Local Enterprise Board, Carlow County Council, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and Enterprise Ireland, the members of the Carlow Food Network are excited to present dedicated Carlow dishes on their menus during Restaurant Week”. Concluding he encouraged everyone - families, food enthusiasts and anyone looking for a delightful dining experience—to come out and support this special week. Reservations are welcomed though not essential.
