Count 12 and Patricia Stephenson's votes were distributed and now John McGuiness's surplus of 422 are being distributed. 

9pm John McGuinness (FF) has just been elected as the first TD in the Carlow/Kilkenny constituency on the eleventh count. 

McGuinness got over the line after heading up the poll from the first count. 

The race for the final four seats is on now with six candidates left in the running. They are Peter Chap Cleere (FF), Jennifer Murnane O'Connor (FF) Catherine Callaghan (FG), David Fitzgerald (FG), Áine Gladney (SF) and Natasha Newsome Drennan (SF).

Patricia Stephenson (SD) was eliminated on that count so her 6,426 votes will be distributed now.

Court 10 and the race has been whittled down to eight candidates vying for five seats. 

John McGuinness is still leading the poll with Jennifer Murnane O'Connor, Peter "Chap" Cleere, Áine Gladney Knox and Catherine Callaghan coming next.

Natasha Newsome Drennan and Patricia Stephenson and David Fitzgerald

are next. 

Michael Doyle from Fine Gael has been eliminated so his 5,467 votes will be distributed.  

6pm 

Count 9  and after the distribution of Malcolm Noonan's vote of 3,501 the leading Carlow contenders are Jennifer Murnane O'Connor (FF) on 8,533, Catherine Callaghan (FG) on 7,264 and Áine Gladney Knox is 7,185.

Poll topper is John McGuinness (FF) on 11,063.

Gary O'Neill (Aontu) was eliminated on that count so his vote of 3,765 is now being distributed. 

5.05pm 

Count 8 and Minister of State from the Green Party Malcolm Noonan has just been eliminated on the eight count in Carlow/Kilkenny. 

Mr Noonan attended the count centre yesterday, Saturday but wasn't here today. 

At this stage half of the 20 candidates have been eliminated so the remaining 10 runners are now battling it out for five seats. 

3.55pm 

Count 7, another elimination but no one elected yet. 

Eugene McGuinness has just gone out of the race at this round so his 2,245 votes will be distributed. 

His brother, sitting TD John McGuinness needs another 1,525 to reach the quota and looks unlikely to reach the quota on count 8. 

Green Party Minister of State, Malcolm will be eliminated in the next count. 

3pm 

Count 6 has just landed in the centre with no one yet reaching the quota of 11,672. 

John McGuinness is still leading with 9,947, Jennifer Murnane O'Connor is on 8,283, Peter "Chap" Cleere has 7,290 so that top three candidates are all from Fianna Fáil. 

After that there's Áine Gladney Knox (SF) with 6,908 and Fine Gael's Catherine Callaghan with 6,898. 

Labour's Seán Ó hArgáin was eliminated on that count so his 1840 votes are now being distributed. 

1.15pm 

The fifth count has just been called in the Carlow/Kilkenny count centre. 

No one has reached the quota and Luke O'Connor (Ind) has been eliminated. 

His 1,626 will now be distributed among the remaining 13 candidates. 

12.30pm 

The results of the fourth count has seen the elimination of Adrienne Wallace (PBPS).

No one has reached the quota of 11.627. 

Adrienne's 1,528 votes will now be distributed. 

12.15pm 

Counting in the Carlow Kilkenny constituency resumed at 9.30am and quickly gathered pace.

Two counts have been held  over the course of the morning with the distribution of  the votes of Independents John O'Leary and Noel G Walash (Ind) and David Egan of Liberty Republic.

Currently Fianna Fáil's John McGuinness is in front with 9841, followed by Jennifer Murnane O'Connor (FF) on 8,116 and Peter 'Chap' Cleere (FF) 7,235.

Fine Gael's Catherine Callaghan on 6,818 remains ahead of running mates Michael Doyle and David Fitzgerald.

Sinn Féin's Áine Gladney Knox is on 6,516 and remains ahead of party colleague Natasha Newsome Drennan.

Count four - the distribution of Orla Donohoe's (IFP) 818 votes is currently underway.
