Carlow to get €3 million to support active travel plans

Presentation de la Salle, Bagenalstown is one of the local school to receive funding
ACTIVE TRAVEL projects across Carlow will receive €3 million from the National Transport Authority’s (NTA) latest rounds of funding.
The funding has been granted to Carlow County Council for ten active travel projects throughout the county.
Over €2 million of the funding has been allocated for pedestrian and cycle schemes.
A total of €340,000 has been spread across three schools – Presentation De La Salle College, Bagenalstown, St Brigid’s National School, Grange, and Queen of the Universe NS, Bagenalstown – for the ongoing safe route to school schemes set up in each area.
Funding has also been allocated for footpath schemes and bus service enhancements throughout the county.
Carlow County Council currently has 23 active travel schemes in various phases of completion.
Welcoming this funding, deputy Jennifer Murnane O'Connor said: "I am thrilled to see such a substantial investment in active travel for Carlow and Kilkenny for 2025. This funding will make our communities safer and more accessible for walkers and cyclists. I am confident that these projects will have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of the people of both counties.
“We need to make active travel a practical and viable option for people and this funding is a significant step towards that goal and shows a strong commitment to promoting sustainable and active travel options across both counties.''
