CARLOW shoppers have raised more than €5900 for Family Carers Ireland as part of Lidl’s annual Trolley Dash festive fundraiser.

In total, €272,060 was raised across the country for Family Carers Ireland through the sale of raffle tickets, with a winner from each of the 190 Lidl stores nationwide getting the chance to complete a two-minute supermarket sweep-style dash to fill their trolley ahead of the festive period.

Corporate Affairs director at Lidl Ireland, Eimear O’Sullivan thanked everyone who purchased a ticket for the raffle and said the amount of money raised was “incredible”.

“We are absolutely delighted by the overwhelming generosity of our customers this year. The Lidl Trolley Dash is a much-loved festive tradition, and to see a total of €272,060 raised is simply incredible,” she said.

“100% of these crucial funds will directly support the vital work of Family Carers Ireland, making a tangible difference to carers and their families right across the country. On behalf of Lidl, I want to thank everyone who purchased a ticket and supported this essential campaign,” she added.

The proceeds from the Trolley Dash will be allocated immediately to Family Carers Ireland, which will allow the organisation to continue to provide the essential services and support for family carers in every community across the country.

Commenting on the initiative, head of communications and policy at Family Carers Ireland, Catherine Cox, said, “The support from Lidl customers through the Trolley Dash has been phenomenal. is more than just a number; it will help deliver vital supports and services to family carers across Ireland who give so much in caring for their loved ones.” She added: “These funds will allow us to expand our vital practical and emotional supports and services, ensuring that the incredible work done by family carers is supported and valued.”
