THERE were lots of lots to bid on when Carlow Lions Club hosted a fundraising auction recently, with more than 100 items up for grabs.

The Lions Club previously organised an auction a few years ago and members thought it would be a great idea to revive the event to raise a few bob for the Éist Cancer Support Centre.

Organised by members John O’Donovan and Tom Clowry, the auction attracted support from businesses and individuals from across Co Carlow and beyond. Among the many great things up for sale were bicycles, works of art, a smart TV and vouchers for hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, hair and beauty treatments.

“Tom was keen to run an auction this year and we were particularly interested in finding an event that would be suitable to raise funds for the Éist centre. Éist was a good fit for us because they have a big community following. The work they do is very valuable so we thought it would be a great charity to support,” said auctioneer Eoin Kehoe, PRO for the Lions, who ran the auction alongside fellow auctioneer Jimmy Walsh of Leinster Co-op Marts.

The Carlow Ukelele Players performed at the beginning of the evening, lending a warm atmosphere to proceedings before the auction.

About €7,500 was raised at the auction and Carlow Lions Club would like to thank everyone who contributed so generously to the cause.

“Thanks to everyone who generously donated to the auction and to everyone else who supported the auction by buying something in it,” said Eoin.
