Carlow Historical and Archaeological Society to mark 80th anniversary with time capsule

Carlow Historical and Archaeological Society have created a time capsule

TO CELEBRATE its 80th anniversary, Carlow Historical and Archaeological Society (CHAS) will create a time capsule that will not be opened until 2076.

The time capsule will be called Not Forgotten and will be sealed during the December Carloviana launch.

Members of the society are invited to contribute a handwritten message reflecting on the theme  Not Forgotten to be placed inside the capsule.

The board hopes that the messages ensure that the voices and visions of today’s members will echo into the future, reminding the next generations that Carlow’s heritage endures because it is remembered.

CHAS included a number of suggestions for what people could write in their message: a memory of Carlow that should not be forgotten; a person, place or story that shaped their connection to the county; what Carlow’s heritage means to them or a message for the person who opens the capsule’s preserved legacy.

The capsule will be placed in Carlow County Museum after being sealed.

CHAS members will receive a postal pack with instructions, a message card and a commemorative lapel pin.

To be included in the time capsule, your membership must be paid and up to date by 10 October.

New members can join the society at www.carlowhistorical.com.
