Bus services for two villages to be reviewed

Ballinabranna and Old Leighlin villages have been overlooked so far
BUS services for the villages of Ballinabranna and Old Leighlin are to be reviewed. Cllr Daniel Pender, cathaoirleach of Muinebheag Municipal District, said he had secured a commitment from the National Transport Authority (NTA) to review the bus services.
Following a recent meeting with NTA representatives, cllr Pender raised concerns about the exclusion of these two growing rural communities from the current public transport network, despite similar or smaller villages being served by existing routes. Speaking after the meeting, cllr Pender said: “Rural public transport continues to expand, yet Ballinabranna and Old Leighlin ‒ two thriving and growing villages ‒ have been overlooked.
“I met with the NTA to ensure this issue was brought to their attention and I’m pleased that they have committed to reviewing the situation. While a final decision has not yet been made, this is an important first step and I will continue to advocate strongly for the introduction of regular bus services for both communities.” The review by the NTA will assess the current and future transport needs of Ballinabranna and Old Leighlin, considering factors such as population growth, connectivity gaps and local demand.
