Bike run to raise funds for Palestinian kids’ trip here

The bike run will take place this Sunday, 6 July

BIKERS from all around Co Carlow and beyond will don their leathers and take a spin in the summer sunshine to raise funds for a great cause. They will converge at the Square in Rathvilly before taking part in the run in aid of a group of children from Palestine who are coming to Ireland for some respite from the war in Gaza. The bike run will raise funds for the trip, which will involve over 50 children and adults going on a tour of Ireland this month.

One of their first stops is Rathvilly, where they’ll play hurling and will be presented with goodie bags before having lunch and a reception in The Harp Bar, catered for by the Green Lemon Café. Their nationwide trip will take in Tipperary, Cork, Clare, Galway, Derry and Belfast, before returning to Palestine.

Businessman Stephen Redmond, originally from Rathvilly but now living in London, organised the trip for the children and their guardians and is being assisted locally by a group of volunteers, while Carlow County Council has also rowed in with support.

The children will arrive in Rathvilly on 22 July to play GAA before moving on to their next destination.

The bike run will take place on Sunday 6 July, with people meeting up at noon for registration before leaving at 1.30pm, so get along early as it’s expected to be busy.
