The store at Sandhills Shopping Centre, Hacketstown Road, Carlow has undergone a major redevelopment in recent weeks, with every area of the unit – from the premium off-licence to the wonderful deli counter, the entrance to the new self-service checkouts – given a fresh new look.

There are new fish and butcher counters, lots of space to wander through the aisles and a delicious new ice-cream parlour!

“It’s fantastic,” enthused Stephen Arthurs, owner of Arthurs’ SuperValu. “To be honest, it really needed it and now we are delighted to say that Carlow has got the store it deserves,” he added.

“We have a fantastic staff here, people who have been with us since the L&N days, some up to 30 years. We are very lucky to have them and also our very loyal customers, who stuck with us right through the redevelopment, we are so grateful to them,” said Stephen.

To celebrate the relaunch, SuperValu held a customer appreciation day, while a promotion of €20 off €60 spent is currently running and will staying running for the next 12 weeks.

“We’ll keep that going for at least 12 weeks coming up to Christmas. It’s our way of saying thanks to the customers,” said Stephen.

The official launch was a fun-filled family day with face painting, balloons and lots of treats for customers. The official launch also welcomed two very special guests in the form of Sam Maquire and Liam McCarthy, with people queueing up to get their photos taken with the ultimate GAA prize. A raffle was also snapped up by happy shoppers.

And it seems the birth of a whole new-look store wasn’t the only arrival Stephen welcomed that week – with his week-old son Max also making his first public appearance for the official launch.

Stephen was joined for the ribbon cutting heralding a whole new era for Arthurs’ SuperValu by his wife Aideen and their children Ailbhe and baby Max.

Asked about a €1.5m store revamp happening the same week as the birth of his son, Stephen quipped that he has “a very patient wife”.

“Oh, I love stress and sleepless nights,” he laughed.
