GOOD penmanship is as important as ever, even in an age of keyboards and screens, if the Tullow Show Schools Competition is anything to go by! The show has been running a handwriting and art competition for decades, and this year there were record numbers of entries from 13 schools in the locality.

“Every year we run this competition for art and handwriting, and this year we had around 1,500 entries from schools all around the area. The children work on their entries just as the teachers and classes were finishing up before the summer, and their work is displayed at the Tullow Show every August. It’s a lovely project for the schools to get involved in,” said Patrick Jordan, liaison officer for the competition.

“Handwriting is an art form, and there was certainly no shortage of entries this year! We had a great crowd for the presentation of prizes, which took place in Tullow Community School, so we’d like to acknowledge them, too.” Around 100 youngsters were presented with plaques which were supplied by Cheryl Stanley of the Fawn Lazer Company, while the plaques were sponsored by AIB Tullow.

The obligatory fizzy orange, crisps and sweets for the children were generously supplied by the Tullow Show Committee.
