All Ireland success in maths for Borris College

A student from Borris College has scooped the top prize in a national maths competition.
Keelan O’Carroll (15) was crowned the outright winner in the all-Ireland final of the Maths Eyes Competition.
The competition invites students to capture images that demonstrate maths, such as geometry, can be seen in real life. Keelan, from St Mullins, is the son of Dawn and Seamus.
He was inspired by the beautiful countryside and River Barrow near his home to take the overall winning picture. His entry was titled
. He scooped the overall award across all age groups and categories including for primary, secondary and further education entries.
Luisa Foley, a third-year student from Leighlinbridge, is the daughter of David and Anne. She was also very successful and won an award for finishing in the U14 category. Her entry was
“It’s really big kudos for Keelan to win the overall prize, he beat everyone else! And for Luisa to get into the top three is a brilliant achievement,” said Sarah Doyle, deputy principal.

The students’ success comes on the back of them winning the regional title for the Junior Maths team in the Irish Maths Teachers’ Association Regional Pi Quiz. Borris College competed against schools from across the south east to qualify for the all-Ireland maths finals. Well done to all the students and their maths teachers.
