TULLOW Marathon Runners held their annual presentation at the Tullow Memorial Hall recently when they handed over some hard-earned cash to great local causes.
The event was opened with a prayer led by Fr Ger Ahearn after which trophies were presented to Violet Stanley, Mary Walshe, Mary Behan, Hannah Coady, Joe Smithers, Ger Whelan and Myles Balfe for their “inspirational work for the Tullow community”.
Special recognition was given to Willow Byran and Kiran Skinner.
The trophies were sponsored by Cheryl and William McHutcheon, the founders of Laser Now.
The group announced that they had raised €11,300, up from €7,700, last year and presented cheques to 25 local charities and clubs including Holy Angels; St Clare’s Kitchen; Tullow Day Care Centre; Cairdeas; St Francis Farm; Clonmore Trust Fund; Walking in My Shoes and Make a Dream Come True.

The average amount given was between €300 and €500, however two cheques were given for €1,000.
Throughout the year the marathon runners competed in a number of races, from 5km to half marathons and full marathons to raise these funds.
The marathon runners then thanked their main sponsors: MCKS Charity; Tullow Credit Union; John O’Toole; Patrick Doyle Fuels; John Brophy; John O’Neill; Ger and Angela O’Neill; Noel Dowling; FBD; Brian Fagan; Murphy’s Butchers; Grainne Alymers Solicitors and Adam Broughan.
The presentation ended with the Tullow Marathon Runners thanking the community for their support and announcing a live draw for a holiday to Lourdes.
