Rathanna drama group raise funds for hospice and local causes

RATHANNA drama group extend thanks to everyone who showed up and donated money throughout their eight performances of Mammy’s Boy in Rathanna hall in April.

On the final night, they raised €3,000 for the Oak Ward Hospice at Waterford University Hospital, where former member Sean Stapleton spent his final days. “It was a great night,” said committee member Elizabeth Roche. “It was full, full, full.” Elizabeth thanked the nurse who took care of Sean for turning up and said Sean’s family also appreciate the support. The company’s chairperson handed over a cheque to the nurse.

The group also raised vital funds for Ballymurphy soccer club, Borris Community Playschool and the local community games throughout the run of performances. Money was raised through raffles and a small auction of props, in addition to ticket sales. Music during the interval by Holly Gahan, Lizzy Slevin, Aoife Brophy, Jolie Magee, in addition to Dermot Shaughnessy and Cyril Hughes, rounded off the performance.
