THE Carlow branch of AIB recently held an information evening for local charities about their community fund which is worth €1m nationwide. Charities in the area were invited into the AIB Carlow branch to hear about how to be nominated for the funds.
Éist Cancer Support Centre was awarded from the fund in 2024 and Lorna McGrath, their service manager, attended the evening to discuss how easy it was to nominate a charity for funding.
Each year, AIB allocates €1 million to charities chosen by its customers, members of the public and employees. The funds are distributed following an online nomination process, one for customers and one for employees, and are split across five regions in Ireland – Munster, Ulster, greater Dublin, the rest of Leinster and Connacht. Charities can receive amounts ranging from €6,000 up to €26,000.
To celebrate AIB’s 60th anniversary in 2026, the bank is making a once-off additional contribution of €60,000 to the community fund. This extra funding will provide an additional €10,000 for each region, enabling even more community-based projects and initiatives to benefit.
Heidi Sutton, Carlow AIB branch manager said: “We’re delighted to welcome local charities into our Carlow branch to provide information on this year’s AIB Community €1 Million Fund. The process of receiving funds is very easy and we are here to support in any way we can. We’ve seen first-hand how this funding has helped the charities over the last few years and the difference it can make, especially to smaller local charities. We look forward to the nomination process opening in mid-May and we hope to see our local community in Carlow nominating charities that matter most to them.” To date, almost 300 charities have been supported by the AIB Community €1 Million Fund, demonstrating the commitment of AIB and its branches as they continue to support local charities within their local communities. The fund supports a diverse, broad range of charities and helps to keep up their good and much-needed work.
Nominations are now open and close at 5pm on 19 June. Full details on how to nominate your favourite charity, along with more information, are on the AIB Community €1 Million Fund are available at aib.ie/community-fund
