Four-legged horse power raises funds for Carlow charity

AST coast carriage drivers came out in force to participate in a charity carriage drive for Éist cancer support.
The drive was organised by Reverend Dr Lester Scott, who is the rector of Fenagh, Myshall, Aghade and Ardoyne Union of Parishes.
Rev Scott said that he wanted to raise money for Éist as it is a “cause close to his heart”.
“The sad reality is that one in every two people will get some form of cancer in their lifetime,” Rev Scott said. “We also have parishioners who volunteer as counsellors with Éist.” He decided to organise a carriage charity drive as opposed to a vintage car rally or tractor run as he wanted to do something different. He thought that the number of those held in recent years might mean people are tired of them.
“I had never been on a (carriage drive) before,” Rev Scott said. “It was different and I think people found it refreshing in that sense.” The carriage ride began at the Holy Trinity Church in Ardoyne, proceeded to All Saints church in Aghade - where the carriage drivers stopped for a picnic - and finished in Ardoyne.
Rev Scott said that the event was a “tremendous success” and he is already thinking of doing it again next year.
“We might pick another charity next year,” he said.
Cash donations for Éist were taken the day of the event and people could also donate online through the iDonate page that Rev Scott set up.
