Muine Bheag arts festival starts this Friday

The festival starts on Friday

MUINE Bheag Arts is hosting its annual festival, this year called COMMUNE, from 15-25 August. Taking place in and around the Muine Bheag Community Centre in Bagenalstown, the programme features live events, workshops and public participation.

Organisers say that the festival is primarily about disseminating ideas, emerging from one central space, such as the community centre, shared by artists, community groups, collaborators and graduates-in-residence. The programme includes exhibitions, workshops, events, residencies, publishing and radio broadcasts. These platforms provide opportunities for artists to research, test and create art through close collaboration with the organisation and members of the local community.

The festival includes a workshop on publishing, talks by several of the participating artists, a tour of the public artwork in the town and a live musical performance by service users in BEAM Services, among other events.

The programme includes contributions from Anna Aleksejeva, After School Special, Marian Balfe, BEAM Services, Liliane Puthod and Ingrid Lyons, Queer Shed Sligo, Lily O’Shea and many others.

The exhibition is being launched on Friday at 6pm in Muine Bheag Community Centre.
