SAMHAIN Festival 25 lit Carlow up over the bank holiday weekend with the spectacular fire event which took place on the grounds of Carlow College and at the Visual arts centre on Friday night.
Audiences were treated to red-hot performances from Rocket Pyrotechnics, Sexy Tadhg and ROGU, a troupe that brought the story of flame to life through fire displays, movement and haunting vocals.
The family-friendly event offered the chance for parents to share the wonder of performance with their children and provide long-lasting memories.
“Culture helps shape who we are as individuals and communities. Events like this remind us of the power of creativity to bring people together, to inspire and to celebrate what makes Carlow such a vibrant place,” said Emma Lucy O’Brien, CEO of Visual.
Visual also hosted a free family fun day on Sunday with activities such as the spooky scavenger hunt, a deadly disco and the monster, ghouls and goblins art workshop on offer. There are more spooky scavenger hunts at Visual starting at 11am all throughout the week.
On Saturday, Carlow Farmers Market marked its 21st anniversary with a Halloween-themed event at the Potato Market, which included a children’s pumpkin carving competition, fancy dress, face painting and live music.

The Exchange has activities throughout the week, such as a Halloween disco and games, which has free entry and runs from 2pm to 5pm on Wednesday and Thursday. There are also cinema screenings at 6.30pm on Wednesday and Thursday, at a cost of €5 per ticket, or €15 for a family of four.
Samhain Festival 25 is co-ordinated by a partnership of Carlow County Council and Visual arts centre and runs until Sunday November 2.
