Grange takes on 12-hourwalkathon for local causes

Karen Somers will take on the 12-hour walkathon in aid of St Francis Farm Detox Unit, Tuillow.

An early start and lots of energy will be called for in Grange on Saturday 24 August as the village committee in conjunction with Grange GAA Club host a walkathon and family fun event.

The walkathon will start bright and early at 5am on Saturday morning and finish at 5pm with 12 teams of people coming together to take on the challenge. Each team will walk the GAA community walking track for an hour to raise money for the community, with lots of vital work planned for the funds raised.

The 12-hour walkathon will be followed by a family fun day from 2pm to 5pm at Grange GAA grounds with face painting, sports races and fun activities and treats for children all being part of the afternoon. There will also be all inclusive sports activities for the children to take part in, with trophies and medals for those that take part. All sponsorship raised will goes towards Grange Village Committee and Grange GAA Club.

As part of the walkathon, local woman Karen Somers is going one step further and is taking on the huge challenge of walking the full 12 hours herself, from 5am to 5pm in aid of a very special local cause.

Karen will walk the track in aid of St Francis Farm Detox Unit in Tullow, a service provided by Merchants Quay Ireland.

“We all know someone that is battling addiction but help is out there. This is why it is so important to raise funding for the detox unit in St Francis Farm, which is such a fantastic and unique facility offering people the help they need to battle these addictions,” said Karen. “I want to raise as much sponsorship as possible for this worthy cause. All donations will be greatly appreciated."

St Francis Farm is a therapeutic rehabilitation centre offering a 14-week drug-free residential programme, that aims to provide clients with rehab in a rural setting to support them in addressing their addiction. To support Karen go to her GoFundMe page at https://gofund.me/f32cd0ea.
