AN Garda Síochána has launched the annual Carlow Garda Youth Awards.
The awards, which are run in association with Netwatch and with support from Carlow Co Council, celebrate the outstanding contributions that young people between the ages of 13 and 21 make to their communities. Awards will be considered for nominated young people who make their communities a better place in which to live.
There are four different award categories: the individual award for those who have made a positive contribution to the community; the group award for groups of two or more young people who have made positive contributions; the community safety award, which recognises young people who have made their community a safer place to live through a crime prevention or safety initiative; and the special achievement award for those who have overcome difficult circumstances, defied all the odds and whose commitment deserves recognition.
Irish rugby legend and Netwatch ambassador Mick Galwey said: “Netwatch are proud to continue their support for this great initiative.”
He added: “Throughout my career, I have been lucky enough to participate in many community events around the country, and the ones that honour the younger generation are always the most inspirational. These awards instil great confidence in these young people, letting them know that their actions count and really can make a difference.”
The winners from each category will come together at an awards ceremony in May. The winners will also be submitted to the national judging panel, which selects a national winner for each category for the Garda National Youth Awards.
Any member of the public can submit a nomination and is encouraged to do so to recognise the valuable contribution of young people in our communities. The closing date for applications is Friday 8 May.
Nomination forms are available from garda stations in the Carlow area or you can submit your nomination through the link on the Carlow Garda Facebook page.
Application forms are to be submitted online through the link provided on Carlow Garda and Netwatch Facebook pages or can be handed in to Insp Conor Nolan of Carlow Garda Station or Garda John Byrne, juvenile liaison officer, Carlow Garda Station. They can also be emailed to KC.Carlow.CE@garda.ie.
