LOCAL community outreach group Younity held its eighth annual summer family barbecue and fun day at Hanover Park, Carlow, recently.

Hundreds of people packed into the park to enjoy a wide range of activities, including face painting, football, singing, dancing, arts and crafts and basketball.

A barbecue was diligently manned by a capable group of volunteers throughout the day and proved to be a great success, with more than 500 burgers and hot dogs dished out to hungry attendees.

Guest speakers also gave talks intended to inspire the community, sharing messages about this year’s theme of developing an ‘overcomer mentality.’ Younity chairperson Jolly O’Rock thanked all those who turned up at Hanover Park for the event, as well as the sponsors and volunteers.

“Younity’s annual community family fun day was another success, thanks to all our sponsors and volunteers. It is always a beautiful sight to watch the community coming together and I am very proud to be a Carlovian,” she said.

Younity is a local family outreach team dedicated to empowering and supporting young people, equipping them and their families with the skills they need for the future.

In addition, Jolly said Younity is expanding to offer workshops that help young people understand their purpose, build confidence, develop life skills and recognise the importance of positive choices and community.
