SOUTH EAST Technological University (SETU) welcomed four members of the O’Shaughnessy family for an open discussion on the legal profession recently.

The event provided law and business students with insights into the careers and experiences of consultant solicitor Michael O’Shaughnessy and his sons Colm, Daragh, Ciaran and Brian, all established professionals in accountancy, law and taxation.

The speakers brought a wealth of experience from different areas of law, business and taxation. Daragh O’Shaughnessy, a chartered tax adviser, has extensive experience advising individual and corporate clients on taxation matters and has contributed to professional publications and national media discussions.

Ciaran O’Shaughnessy, a partner in Patrick F O’Reilly & Co, has worked in property, private client and corporate law. Brian O’Shaughnessy FCA is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Accountants Ireland and is currently chief commercial officer at Uniphar plc, a global healthcare services company connecting pharmaceutical manufacturers with healthcare stakeholders across multiple regions.

Organised by Sadhb Reddy, law lecturer at SETU, the discussion allowed each speaker to share their career experiences and professional expertise.

The event also held special significance as it was dedicated to the memory of Andrias O’Shaughnessy, Michael and his wife Maureen’s son, who died in July 2024.

In honour of Andrias, Ms Reddy presented a donation to Young Ballymun, a national childhood programme focused on improving wellbeing and learning outcomes for children.

Andrias had been a board director of the organisation, a role now carried on by his brother Colm. The event served not only as a valuable learning opportunity for students but also as a meaningful tribute to Andrias’s legacy.
