PBP announce cllr Wallace as General Election candidate

Cllr Adrienne Wallace

As speculation mounts about a snap general election, People Before Profit has today announced that cllr Adrienne Wallace will run as the candidate for Carlow/Kilkenny.

Cllr Wallace is well known for her activism, particularly around housing and the campaign for a women’s refuge in Carlow and has served on Carlow Council since 2019.

“I am excited to announce that I have been selected as the candidate for the up-coming general election. This will be my second time running in a general election having received 4,800 votes in 2020 which was more than double my vote in 2016. The electorate in Carlow/Kilkenny quite frankly cannot afford another term of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. It’s time to end their 100-year rule. Another Ireland is possible, we just need the right political will to make it happen," she said.

She continued “There are record-breaking numbers of homelessness and the lack of services and school places for children with special needs is particularly acute here. Without the right political representation in Carlow and Kilkenny things will continue to get worse. The Green party have failed on their mandate to tackle climate change. Having missed the 2020 emission reductions targets, Ireland is now on course to miss the 2030 emission reduction targets by a substantial shortfall."

"PBP has a raft of eco-socialist policies that would create the system change we need, and we have the political will to deliver it. We will never enter into a coalition with Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil. We want to create a left government that can break the cycle of the two and a half party system.”

Today's announcement by cllr Wallace means that all of the Carlow-based candidates, who have to date declared their intention to stand in the upcoming General Election, are women - Jennifer Murnane O'Connor (FF), Catherine Callaghan (FG), Áine Knox (SF), Orla Donohoe Irish Freedom Party and Adrienne Wallace (PBP)
