Carlow Co Council trip to Hungary approved

Cllrs Fergal Browne and Fintan Phelan will both travel to Hungary this September as part of the Entente Florale international competition
CATHAOIRLEACH of Carlow County Council cllr Fergal Browne and mayor of Carlow Municipal District cllr Fintan Phelan will both travel to Hungary this September as part of the Entente Florale international competition.
Carlow Town was Ireland’s entry in the competition this year and the results will be announced at this international gathering in Hungary from 5 to 7 September.
Approval for the trip was granted by members of Carlow County Council at their July meeting; however, People Before Profit's cllr Adrienne Wallace, a long-standing opponent of foreign trips, questioned if any members of Carlow Tidy Towns or the volunteers were travelling.
“They are the people who are doing the work day in, day out,” she remarked. “Also, how much is all this going to cost?”
Chief executive Coilín O’Reilly stated that it was the council’s intention to bring a delegation of volunteers from Carlow and stated that a full costing of the trip will be made available to councillors.
