Bagenalstown students teach their German peers about Irish music

Twenty-five music students from Presentation de la Salle in Bagenalstown embarked on a cultural trip to Germany
TALENTED Irish traditional music students from Presentation De La Salle College, Bagenalstown embarked on an exciting cultural and musical exchange as part of an Erasmus+ programme offered to students in the school.
The 24 students collaborated with AAG School in Cuxhaven, Germany on a trip that was truly culturally enlightening.

During their jam-packed five-day itinerary, the young people not only shared their skills by teaching the German students how to play the tin whistle but also had the opportunity to showcase Irish music to a large audience at the popular Cuxhaven Christmas Market. Their performance was a highlight of the trip, drawing in a crowd eager to experience Ireland’s rich musical heritage.

In addition to musical activities, they explored local attractions, deepening their understanding of German culture. This Erasmus+ exchange proved to be an unforgettable experience, fostering meaningful connections and mutual appreciation between the two communities.
“It was an unforgettable experience that created many memories that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. It’s wonderful to witness Irish traditional music being shared and experienced globally, and we owe this to the Erasmus+ opportunities available in our school,” said teacher Amanda Dermody.
