MAURICE Lawler, who grew up in Ballycrogue, Co Carlow was conferred with a bachelor of arts in applied policing at University of Limerick on Monday 8 June.
The date of his conferral also happened to be his 25th birthday and near the 104th anniversary of his grandfather’s conferral as a garda. His grandfather John McHugh served as a member of An Garda Síochána from 26 June 1922 until 1972.
The conferral at UL marked the end of Maurice’s two-year probationary period in the gardaí. He is currently attached to Blanchardstown Garda Station.
The family, including his mother Patricia, sister Grace, brother Marcus and dad Tom celebrated the day with a ‘lovely’ family meal and said they were very proud of Maurice.
