Carlow gears up for ‘Darkness into Light’ walk

Carlow Town Hall lit up to support Darkness Into Light

DARKNESS into Light, a dawn walk in support of those impacted by suicide and self-harm, returns to Carlow next month. The event asks participants to walk from darkness into the dawn and it will take place on 9 May, beginning at Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlach, Carlow town.

Its purpose is to raise awareness and vital funds for Pieta House, who provide free, professional support to individuals and families in mental health crises. Last year’s event raised €20,000 for the organisation.

The 2026 walk in Carlow nearly did not go ahead, as the group lacked a venue and enough volunteers until earlier this month. Fortunately, Gaelcholáiste Cheathearlach stepped in and offered to host the venue at the school.

The committee is proud of the incredible generosity shown by the local community and they hope to build on last year's success.

Participants can register for the walk and donate, with all proceeds going directly to Pieta House, online at https://www.darknessintolight.ie/. For more information, visit the Carlow Darkness into Light Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/DILcarlow.
