Carlow College catering team raises funds for CRY Ireland

Elaine Whelan from CRY is presented with a cheque by Julie Lyons, catering manager of Carlow College, student Rósín Browne and Fr Conn Ó Maoldhomhnaigh, Carlow College president
CARLOW College presented a cheque to Cardiac Risk in the Young Ireland (CRY) recently after fundraising throughout 2024 through a series of events.
Leading the initiative was the college’s catering manager Julie Lyons, who organised raffles, a Christmas dinner and various other events which saw the college and wider community rally in support of CRY Ireland, raising a much-needed €1,710.
Speaking at the cheque presentation, Julie expressed her heartfelt gratitude: “I am honoured and proud to announce that together we have raised an amazing €1,710 for this very worthy cause. This achievement would not have been possible without the phenomenal support shown by all of you. On behalf of myself and CRY, I want to say a huge thank you for your ongoing and continued support.” A special mention goes to Winnie, Julie’s mother, whose enthusiasm and dedication to selling raffle tickets ensured widespread participation and contributions.
The funds were presented to CRY Ireland representative Elaine Whelan, who thanked the Carlow College community for their generosity. Speaking at the event, Elaine highlighted CRY’s mission to support individuals affected by Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) and emphasised the importance of community initiatives in sustaining its vital services.
CRY Ireland is a charitable organisation dedicated to raising awareness of SADS and providing vital support to families affected by inherited cardiac conditions. The organisation offers free bereavement counselling, cardiac screening and advocacy for those impacted by undiagnosed heart conditions. CRY also funds critical research to better understand and prevent sudden cardiac death.
