Baltinglass Holy Year Cross to feature in new documentary by local film maker
A documentary has been made about the history of Baltinglass hill and its distinctive Holy Year Cross
A NEW documentary about the history of Baltinglass Hill and the Holy Year Cross will be premiered on Thursday 18 December at the Lalor Centre in Baltinglass.
The documentary is directed by young film maker John Hughes and co-produced by himself and fellow Baltinglass native Paul Gorry. It is a Parkmore Studios production in association with Gorry Research.
The premiere will be hosted by the West Wicklow Historical Society with the screening beginning at 8pm. There will be an open discussion about the making of the documentary and about the wider history of the cross and Baltinglass Hill following the screening.
It’s a timely release because 24 December marks the 75th anniversary of the blessing of the original Holy Year Cross on Baltinglass Hill.
Tickets to the premiere are €5 and can be purchased on the night, with proceeds going towards the committee that maintains the cross.
