A FUNDRAISER in aid of Annette Foley, who received a "devastating" cancer diagnosis, is taking place this Friday evening, 10 July, at Murray’s Bar in Ballymurphy, from 8.30pm.
A Kilkenny band, Final Call, featuring Becca Fox and Barry Kavanagh sparked the idea for the fundraiser, after Annette’s sister Susan met them while they were playing in Lanzarote. “Hats off to them, it’s such a kind thing to do,” said Deborah, another of Annette’s sisters.
Annette has two children and was a full-time carer to her son Max before her illness. Her husband Darren is now taking care of the family full time. The family are from the Ballymurphy area.
She got a breast cancer diagnosis a couple of years ago, and it spread to her lymph nodes and her thyroid. During that time, her sisters Louise and Deborah set up a GoFundMe to bring the family relief which was greatly appreciated. The campaign has raised over €17,000 for the family so far.
She was given the all clear less that a year ago and was “over the moon”, said Deborah. However, her treatment stopped working and she has been re-diagnosed with incurable forms of cancers.
“The treatment may work to slow things down, we need to get her stable so she can get home and be with her family and continue the treatments there,” said Deborah. Annette is “dreaming about time with the family and maybe a few days away together,” she said.
In addition to the music, the family are running a raffle to raise funds for Annette and Darren, with many kind businesses already sponsoring raffle prizes.
“We are blown away by how much the community has come together for Annette and Darren as we know too well that this kind of devastation is close to home for so many.” “It's a very stressful and difficult time and you would do anything for your own,” said Deborah.
