Carlow walked out comprehensive 3-1 winners over Kilkenny on Wednesday night. Boasting a total of five changes from the defeat to Wexford two weeks ago, Carlow put Kilkenny under pressure from the off. Brandon Kelly, fresh from defeat in the Leinster Quarter-Final final with Rathvilly on the weekend, opened the scoring after ten minutes with a peach of a free from the edge of the box, slightly to the left, hitting it into the bottom right hand corner.

With eight minutes until half-time, Lord Afrifa down the left hand side played in Ryan Byrne near him and he flicked it into the back of the net to put Carlow 2-0 up at the break.

Two minutes after half-time, Mikey Drennan played in a ball for Decky McQuillan who flicked the ball over Craig Doyle in the Carlow goal to bring it back to 2-1 and put the pressure on. Kilkenny pushed but couldn't find an equaliser.

With almost the final kick of the game, Eoin Carolan broke down the left and squared a ball across the box to Adam Steed who buried the ball into an open net. Carlow now face Defence Forces in two weeks in the final group match.

Wexford are currently leading the group with six points with Carlow and Kilkenny both on 3 each. A result against the Defence Forces will secure a semi-final place for Carlow with the winner advancing to a final against first place.
