Midlands League 0

Odhran Nolan proved to be the hero for the Carlow and District Juvenile League as the attacker scored the golden goal that sent his side to the semi-final of the Kennedy Cup Bowl at the expense of a highly fancied Midlands League.

After the latter just missed out on qualification for the cup when losing their final group game against the DDSL, they went into this bowl competition as favourites to advance, but it was Nolan’s daft finish that proved the difference at the call of time.

Carlow’s dramatic second-placed finish came thanks to two late goals against South Belfast, who went on to lose the cup semi-final against DDSL on penalties, and they battled hard and defended resolutely to come out on top.

They had a chance to take the lead inside ten minutes when Devyn Morrissey sent in a dangerous cross from the right that found the head of Reece Power, but his header was superbly tipped onto the crossbar.

After dealing with everything that Midlands threw at them in the first-half, the golden moment arrived for Carlow on 46 minutes on the clock when Nolan latched onto the ball on the right-side before finishing to the far corner, and that was the only goal.

A semi-final now awaits against Waterford in the Bowl final four.
