Carlow’s Conor Carew was the hero for University Limerick today when he headed home the only goal of the game against Queens University in the Collingwood Cup semi-final.
Carew, who captains the team, found the net in first half injury time when he nodded a left wing corner into the Queens net at the back post.

University Limerick won the competition for the first time in 2024, after losing eight finals previously, with Carew in the team and now he will hope to lift the trophy as skipper.
The university has already had a sporting year to remember after winning both the Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cups at Croke Park earlier this month and they now have their sights set on a unique treble.
Standing in their way are holders Maynooth University after they had a comfortable 3-0 win over UCC in a repeat of last year’s semi-final when the Kildare side won 2-1.
It’s a hectic schedule for both teams after they won their quarter-finals on Monday and the final is set for tomorrow, Wednesday 18 February, at Jackman Park at 2.15pm.
Carew is a multi-talented performer and played for League of Ireland football for Limerick side Treaty Utd. In Carlow, he was part of the Naomh Bríd team that won the Intermediate Hurling Championship last year and has since been called up to the senior county panel by new manager Pat Bennett. He also won a Nationalist Quarterly Award last July after helping Tinryland to win their first Senior Football League Division 1 title in 57 years.
