The LFA Senior Cup draw has thrown up a mouthwatering rematch of last season’s LFA Junior Cup Final with New Oak set to host Evergreen at the Burrin Road in the second round.

The competition’s early stages features junior league winners as well as the winners and runners up of the LFA Junior Cup.

Back in May, New Oak reached the LFA Junior Cup final for the first time, having fallen short in the semi-finals and quarter-finals for a number of years. However, despite it feeling like it was New Oak’s time, they unfortunately couldn’t get the job done, as Evergreen proved too strong, winning 1-0. New Oak will be looking to make amends and right that wrong when the Kilkenny champions visit the Burrin Road.

Elsewhere, league champions, St. Pat’s will face Kilkenny side, Freebooters. The Graiguecullen side were crowned Premier Division champions for the first time since 2002 as they bridged a 23 year gap sicne their last title, losing just one game all season. Those games will take place on the weekend of September 14th.

Round 3 offers up another potential for another interesting rematch as the winner of the St Pat’s/Freebooters game will be at home to the winners of Conor McGregor’s Blackforge or St. Peter’s of Athlone. Pat’s hosted Blackforge last season at The Meadows in the LFA Junior Cup and beat them comfortably. New Oak’s reward for toppling Evergreen would be an away trip to Blackrock College. Those games will take place on the weekend of October 26th.
