There’s an eight-race Flat meeting at Gowran Park today, which consists of two maidens, five handicaps and the Smullen Series Gowran Classic.

Read on for a preview of and tips for the Gowran Park card, brought to you by Betano, who provide all horse racing odds.

We begin with a three-year-old fillies maiden run over a mile (13.29). There are plenty of newcomers here in the field of 11, making this potentially hard to assess, but the best form is brought by Dermot Weld’s Amenita, who could improve for the better ground here. Andrew Slattery’s Spring Sprinter is an appealing debutant, though.

Next is a mile apprentice handicap (13.59). Royal County Glory looks competitive on his mark, while Gold Dublooms has run well at this track before and just might have a small chance of placing. Tynamite also could do better than his odds suggest.

Race three is a handicap run over a mile and a half (14.34). Obscenity looks tempting after a good second last time and tends to hold his form well, while Daboya could be capable of a good result here, after a good performance at Roscommon last time. The Keithen Kennedy-ridden Just Keep Flying could be worth considering too, and has gone well fresh before.

A fillies’ handicap follows (15.09), run over a trip just shy of 10 furlongs. Chica Guerrera ran well at Leopardstown in May and is a pound lower than that today, which looks promising. River Ara needs to improve her form but she could do so in first-time cheekpieces today. Pink Oxalis may be capable of outrunning her outsider’s price.

The Gowran Classic is next, a valuable three-year-olds’ race run over the same trip as the previous contest (15.44). With plenty of non-runners declared today, the race has cut up a bit, but Hardy Warrior is a worthy favourite for Joseph O’Brien after two good performances this term. He ought to be outclassing the rest by some margin, and the only one who might get close to him could be Kilashee Warrior.

A maiden run over that same trip again follows (16.19). Sharkeyboy is interesting after a close second last time, while Jumpingthegun is entitled to improve too for Gordon Elliott. Footstepstoglory showed ability last time in a handicap hurdle, but still has something to prove on the Flat.

Second to last is the first division of a handicap run over the nine and a half furlongs (16.54). Accelereight has every right to be at the sharp end after a good run at Ballinrobe last time, while Pliny looks handy too on a much reduced mark from last year.

Finally, in the second division (17.29), A Pretty Penny was a winner last time out but looks unlikely to win again today. Bocora Aura is interesting on handicap debut, while Neon Eyes represents the in-form Gavin Cromwell stable and could be our winner.
