Gowran Park Racecourse: Preview and Tips for Wednesday’s Eight-Race Meeting

We begin with a mile claiming race (14.22). There’s a mixture of ability and level of experience here, so this won't be an easy race to call, but top-rated Bill Silvers might be a tricky one to get past if his newly-applied visor does the trick. He has seven pounds given to him by rider Jamie Orr as well. Hello Stacia might be capable of a good performance in this company but is wide drawn, while Jp’s Express looks better off here after some good recent runs.

Next is a two-year-olds’ maiden run over seven furlongs (14.52). We have some newcomers in the mix here, who could turn out to be anything, making for a tricky race to analyse at face value. Jack Foley’s Just One Show may be suited by the step up in trip here and could go well, while Citrus Springs displayed some talent last time at Leopardstown and is in a first-time visor for top connections and under an in-form rider.

Race three is a seven-furlong handicap (15.22). Little Empire might be in line for a result here, back on a more competitive mark now and with a five-pound claimer in the saddle. Lohoob is in a good strain of form which should extend here; he has the innermost draw and is a fairly consistent sort.

The fourth race is the nine and a half furlong feature; the Listed Hurry Harriet Stakes (15.52). Star Performer and Classiest are the least exposed, both winners on their debuts in decent maidens. They both ought to be contenders here, but there is some stiff competition. Minerva is not to be taken lightly here, as a Group level performer, while Moonlit Sun is a talented and consistent sort too. She may do better up in trip here and could be underestimated.

A mile and a half handicap follows (16.22). Daboya seeks a hat-trick and may well achieve it here from the bottom of the weights with a seven-pound claimer taking the ride. From the innermost draw, Ephesus could run a solid race here for Denis Hogan, while Navy Waters brings some good form here and is capable of getting involved, though she seems to prefer a softer surface.

A nine and a half furlong maiden is next (16.52). Gliondar went very close on debut at the Curragh in June, and has been gelded before today, which may help him excel further. Karrygrant has been consistently good this term but hasn’t been able to win a maiden yet, so isn’t likely to achieve victory today. Lord Darragh is open to some improvement today, though, though and might have at least an each-way chance.

Second to last is the first division of a handicap over the same trip (17.22). Cameclose was second last time at Ballinrobe and might be handicapped well enough to win this time, while Connova has been in good form too and could involve herself. Drawn wide by competitively weighted is La Campanella, who is in first-time cheekpieces with Colin Keane in the saddle.

The second division is our finale (17.52). Duchess Anne is an appealing one here, drawn innermost and coming here off the back of two decent runs both at this track and at Naas. Medieval Night is a better class of horse, though, and might be able to get to the front here in low-grade company. Billy Lee taking the ride is an asset.
