Mullally satisfied despite late setback

After the full-time whistle, Carlow manager, Tom Mullally, didn’t have the appearance of a man who was deflated. Far from it. He was looking at the overall picture rather than at those final seconds when his side conceded a late equaliser.
“It is a point gained. We were in a position to win the game but to be fair to Antrim, I thought they had a very good second half. We missed a few opportunities. They missed a few opportunities. We will take it as a point gained. Any day that we can get a point at this level, we will take it,” was the message.
“As it currently stands we are still unbeaten in the division. The lads put in a huge first half. Antrim were always going to come into it a bit. It was a deflected shot at the end. There is not a lot you can do about it. There wasn’t time to rescue the game after that.” When Antrim got within two points of Carlow with just over a quarter of the game to go, it looked as if the visitors had the momentum. Mullally acknowledged he was worried at that point.
“The game threatened to go away from us at times but we reacted very well in the second half in terms of those who came on and those who were on the field. We pushed out to go three points up at the end. Our score probably saved the game for us.”
Mullally acknowledged that when Antrim and Carlow meet, there is never that much in it.
“We are very happy to get the point out of it. We have to move on now. We have four games in four weeks and that will test us a good bit. We will see where we are after that. That is all I know.”
And was he disappointed that failed to see out the game when they had that three-point lead with the game in the final seconds.
“It is awful easy to be wise at the end but to be fair we delivered for 72-73 minutes. It was heading for the 74th minute when the mistakes happened. I do possibly we could have taken a couple of scores throughout the second half. A couple of point chances. A couple of balls dropped short as well and when you draw a game like that you might look at the buts and maybes. We have the point now and we will take it.”
