Clinical Cocks see off Asca

Aaron Dowling scored 1-5 for Fighting Cocks in the win over Asca
The margin may have somewhat flattered in this junior championship quarter-final at Netwatch Cullen Park on Friday but The Fighting Cocks fully deserved to advance.
The eventual winners dominated the first half with Asca getting no change out of the Cocks defence as they struggled to put some moves together. In contrast, and at will, Alan Quigley and Aaron Dowling shared seven points between them for the Wexford Road side.
John Phiri was Asca’s best performer but all they had to show for their first half efforts were one-pointers from John Dwyer (f), Conor Byrne (f) Jack Phelan and James Ingram. At half-time, the Cocks led 0-11 to 0-4.
When Asca erred deep inside their own 22 early into the second half, the Cocks were quickly on to the ball and with an exchange of passes, Jack McDonald touched home from close range at the O’Hanrahan end of the ground.
John Phiri converted a penalty for Asca and while they kept going to the final whistle, the Cocks were too good on the night. Glen O’Rourke’s looping cross eluded the Asca keeper for a third goal, with Quigley possibly getting a touch at the far post.
