LEINSTER INTERMEDIATE CAMOGIE CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER-FINAL

CARLOW 3-8 WESTMEATH 1-9

Carlow produced an excellent performance in this Leinster camogie intermediate championship at Raharney to edge out the home county on Sunday. Two early Caoimhe Jordan points settled the eventual winners and with Holly Wall adding a goal, Carlow led 1-4 to 0-4 at the interval.

Three minutes into the second half, Aimie Nolan raised another green flag for Carlow but they had to withstand a Westmeath fight-back which yielded 1-4 with the visitors registering three points. The home side missed a penalty in the third quarter but Meadbh McLoughlin did find the Carlow net with just over ten minutes to go.

As the clock played down to the hour, Carlow were holding on to a narrow two point lead with the defence led by Rachel Breen and Michelle Nolan immense.

They made sure of victory when a sweeping move put Sarah Sheehan through and she held her nerve and composure to score the clinching three-pointer.
