A soft goal conceded by Carlow coupled with a strong finish by the away side saw Derry take the Division 2A league points at the SETU Carlow campus on Saturday. Carlow led 0-8 to 0-4 at the interval with Eleanor Treacy converting two frees and landing a 45. Sarah Sheehan also scored two points.
For Derry, Jackie Donnelly was a threat and her two points lifted her side when they were under the cosh.
The only goal of the game came four minutes into the second half when the defence failed to clear and Cliodhna Ní Mhantáin’s effort dribbled across the line.
Carlow either held onto the lead or prevented their opponents from going ahead. As the game went into the last ten minutes, Derry pressure finally told and two points within seconds of each other from Aimee Lennon gave the Oak Leaf side the momentum to clinch victory.
Carlow's next game is away to Armagh next Saturday.
