Four unanswered points in the final minutes earned Grange a draw in this intermediate football championship semi-final at Netwatch Cullen Park on Sunday.
Grange shaded the early minutes of this intermediate football championship semi-final at Netwatch Cullen Park with the experienced John Murphy showing the way with a two-point free and another two-pointer from play. Against the wind, St Patrick’s didn’t let their heads drop and with Jack Kennedy converting three frees and substitute, Brian Byrne, converting a 45, Grange led 0-8 to 0-6 at the break. Late in the half, Grange lost Patrick Hickey to a black card.
It was tight in the second half. St Patricks looked to be in trouble when they lost Niall Gahan to a black card with less than ten minutes left. It was then they found a bit extra and two points from Kennedy and one from Craig Staunton pushed the Tullow side clear.
Their opponents hit back and with John Murphy converting a free and a point each from Darragh Burrows and Ned Pender it set up the tense finish. The coup de grace through Murphy with a point from play ensured the sides will have to go back into battle on a day still to be announced.
