LETTER: Carlow College ‘a valued treasure’

READING Derry Lenehan’s report in The Nationalist (21 July), could I suggest to our leaders that the arrangements at Carlow College is not just a real estate transaction. It is also the gifting of a valued treasure that has nurtured not only Carlow but the world.

The custodians working in the kitchens, the grounds, the chapel and the theatres of learning need to be cared for generously at this time of change.

The Carlow College family, from porters to professors, have given their hearts and souls to look after the pilgrim scholars, whose feet, over centuries, have worn smooth the granite steps to the entrance hallway.

Perhaps the die is cast, but I hope there could be one more throw of the dice.
