AN UPDATE on the Tullow Road multi-functional community hub was provided by the council’s director of services Michael Brennan at last Thursday's meeting of the municipal district.

Mr Brennan said that tenders were sought last November, applicants asked for an extension of time and the closing date was Monday 20 January. The tender process is due to be finished by mid-February with construction works envisioned on site by the end of March.

Independent Ireland councillor John Cassin asked for the matter to be discussed with the municipal district. It is aimed that work will be completed on the hub within 18 months. The overall cost of the project is €4,594,643 which Carlow County Carlow will match fund. The building will be a shared multi-functional resource with universal access which will facilitate new and existing supports and services, catering for physical, social and community needs.
