EMBRACE Farm, Ireland’s only support network for farm families, encouraged people across Carlow, Kildare and Laois to embrace their inner farmer on Friday 6 February by wearing wellies and donating to Embrace Farm as part of Wear Our Wellies Day (WOW).
This was the third annual WOW day and, last year, over €6,000 was raised to help Embrace Farm provide both emotional and practical support to farming families who have been impacted by serious injury or sudden death.
Agriculture has long been one of the most dangerous industries to work in. According to recent figures from the Health and Safety Authority, farming accounted for 40% of workplace fatalities in the republic in 2025, with 23 people losing their lives on farms.
Embrace asked businesses, schools and other community groups to take part in the initiative and share photos on social media, tagging @embracefarmsupport and using the hashtag #WOWEmbraceFARM across all social media platforms. “It was incredibly heartwarming to see people rallying last year for another incredibly successful WOW day,” said Embrace Farm co-founder Norma Rohan. “This unique fundraiser lets us connect with both farming and non-farming communities, allowing us to highlight the impact a serious injury or sudden death has on a farming family and broader farming community. And, best of all, it’s good craic, so get your friends, family and colleagues and join us as we wear our wellies on 6 February,” she added.
WOW day is over but people can still text FARM to 50300 to donate €4.
