Water supply cut to thousands in Carlow, Kildare following burst mains

Works are underway by Uisce Eireann to restore supply to consumers in North Carlow and South Kildare

Thousands of homes and businesses across North Carlow and South Kildare are without water supply this evening following a large burst on a water main.

The affected areas include Rathvilly, Bough, Cuckoo Corner, Slaney Bank and Ricketstown in County Carlow, as well as Castledermot, Moone and Timolin in South Kildare.

Uisce Éireann is working to restore supply as quickly as possible, with repairs expected to be completed by 4pm tomorrow, Friday 27 June. However, it may take a further two to three hours after completion for normal supply to be restored to all affected customers.

Jim Fitzgerald from Uisce Éireann said the repairs are “complex due to the location and size of the burst” but assured customers that every effort is being made to restore full water supply as quickly as possible.

“We understand the inconvenience an unplanned outage can have on our customers and appreciate their patience as we work to return normal water supply as quickly as possible,” he said.

Traffic management will be in place during the repair works and will be clearly signposted to ensure the safety of repair crews and the public.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours. Customers can register on the Uisce Éireann website’s Vulnerable Customers page.
